Apple reportedly has no plans to release a new, larger iMac
The 27-inch iMac, which Apple no longer markets since this year, should not have the right to a successor. Only the 24-inch iMac should exist, according to information from 9to5Mac.
No direct replacement for the 27-inch iMac?
The site ensures that this information comes from the same source which had announced the existence of the Mac Studio and the Studio Display to him a few days before the official presentation by Apple. And indeed, she had been right. We can therefore be tempted to trust him with regard to the larger iMac that would not see the light of day.
It is true that this information may surprise. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman assured this week that Apple was still working on an iMac Pro. For his part, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the iMac Pro would see the light of day in 2023. It was supposed to succeed the 27-inch iMac in some way, but its existence is now uncertain.
What is the future? Apple seems to want to bet on its new combo, namely the Mac Studio and the Studio Display. The first is very powerful thanks to its M1 Max or M1 Ultra chip depending on the model. As for the second, it is a 27-inch 5K monitor. But it’s almost as expensive as a 27-inch iMac. The pill is therefore a little hard to swallow for those who want to upgrade from a 27-inch iMac.
The 24-inch iMac will, meanwhile, be entitled to an upgrade. Apple would offer a new model in 2023 with the M2 chip. The existing model embeds the M1 chip. On the other hand, we should not expect a version of this all-in-one Mac with the M2 Pro, M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips. Apple would only offer the M2 chip, just as it only offers the M1 chip with the model already on sale.
