Apple is running more ads in the App Store
Apple will start showing more ads in its App Store starting October 25, 2022. This emerges from an e-mail from the company to the app developers. Accordingly, the US company wants to display more advertisements under the “Today” tab and in the “You might also like this” area.
Reports have been circulating for some time that Apple wants to place more advertising on the iPhone. Like the online magazine Mac Rumors now reported, the App Store will contain more advertising from October 25, 2022. This in turn emerges from an email from the US group to the app developers.

Accordingly, the App Store will in future contain significantly more advertisements under the “Today” tab and in the “You might also like this” section. For the first time, developers and advertisers are now able to place “Today” under the registered user and thus in a prominent position on the first page of the App Store.
In the future, developers will also be able to advertise their apps on the pages of other apps under the “You might also like this” tab. Meanwhile, an Apple support page states:
With an ad in the Today tab, your app can appear prominently on the first page of the App Store, making it one of the first pieces of content users see when they visit the App Store.
App Store Ads: Is Apple Forcing App Developers to Show More Ads?
However, experts are skeptical about the new advertising options in the App Store. Data analyst Florian Müller, for example, criticized the “You might like that too” ads on Twitter.
They are “another means of increasing the effective app tax rate, forcing developers to buy ads on their own app pages to avoid driving other customers away from there.”
Apple also wants ads in its Maps, Books, and Podcasts apps
In its search for new sources of income, Apple apparently also wants to display more advertising on the iPhone and iPad beyond the App Store. The US group actually introduced a function last year that is intended to restrict advertising to Apple devices.
According to reports, for example, an extension of the advertisements to the in-house map service is conceivable. Another possibility is that Apple will make publishers pay to advertise their products on Apple’s Books and Podcasts apps.
