Apple exchanges leadership positions for mysterious project

Dan Riccio, head of hardware development for a long time, makes room for his vice-president and personally takes care of a secret new development.
Dan Riccio has headed the hardware engineering department for over eight years. Apple writes in the press release that Riccio has played a leading role in the design, development and engineering of almost all new Apple products. His title is now Vice President of Engineering, while Deputy John Ternus takes over as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering. He rises to the leadership ranks of Apple. Among other things, Ternus led the hardware team that created the iPhone 12 models.
Riccio reports personally to Tim Cook
While the change of position looks like a degradation on paper, it has a different background. Dan Riccio is supposed to take care of a new project. Apple doesn’t reveal what it is. Riccio says himself: “Next, I look forward to doing what I love most – focusing all of my time and energy at Apple on creating something new and wonderful that I couldn’t look forward to anymore.” That he personally who heads the project and reports directly to CEO Tim Cook, shows the relevance that the technology group attaches to the new development.
Rumors see some innovations in the queue
For years the reports of two new developments in Apple’s secret laboratories have not stopped. On the one hand, this concerns AR glasses that are supposed to appear this year. The other product is the “Apple Car”, which has been getting louder again recently. Apple is said to have commissioned the manufacturer Hyundai with production from 2024. Riccio may also be working on a completely new project about which no information has yet been made public.
