Apple doesn’t have to be ashamed of the iPhone SE 2022

No, the new iPhone SE is not an exciting smartphone. Yet the jeering with which he is received in some circles is unjustified. In my opinion, Apple should not be ashamed of the iPhone SE 2022.

Read on after the ad.

Opinion: iPhone SE 2022 is a great smartphone

If you put the iPhone SE 2022 next to the iPhone 13, that first device looks hopelessly old-fashioned. That is not surprising, because the design is almost unchanged compared to the iPhone 8 from 2017. And it was very similar to the iPhone 6 from 2014. The basic design is therefore almost 8 years old, an eternity in smartphone land.

Online, people tumble over each other to mock the new SE. The large bezels, the physical home button and the small screen are enough for a good portion of jeering. Personally, I wouldn’t buy this iPhone either, but I think there is a market for it.

My 72-year-old father, for example, is addicted to the home button and doesn’t like all that swiping up on the newer models. Moreover, he prefers to keep his phone in the breast pocket of his shirt. The size of the iPhone SE is therefore fine for him. Add to that the relatively low price and you have a smartphone that is perfect for this group.

That’s why I like that Apple has these form factor continues to offer and modernize. My father may not be a heavy user, but he would like a smooth smartphone that works well with his inseparable iPad. Thanks to the lightning-fast A15 chip and 5G, it will soon be completely up to date without having to say goodbye to the design that is familiar to him.

Next iPhone SE is likely to be overhauled

Anyone who is also attached to the old-fashioned design would do well to actually get the iPhone SE 2022. Rumor has it that the design will be overhauled next year. Apple would also like to give the cheapest iPhone a borderless screen.

Exactly how big that will be is still unclear. The device may have a 5.8-inch display, making it slightly smaller than the iPhone 13. It seems likely that the next iPhone SE will still have to do without the expensive Face ID. Instead, Apple could opt for Touch ID in the power button on top of the device. We know that solution from the iPad Air.

Of course, that’s not the same as the iconic home button. I hope for people like my father that the iPhone SE 2022 will last a very long time.
