Apple announces new version iOS 17

Apple has announced that an update from iOS 16 to iOS 17 is coming. The operating system update on the iPhone will be available in September. This is a minor update, but some new features will be available. In this article we discuss the changes.

Updates you can expect

After last year’s big iOS update, this update will be a bit smaller. Apple has announced that improvements will be made to the Phone, FaceTime and Messages apps, for example. It becomes easier to share files or contact information via Airdrop and Namedrop. More accurate typing is faster, thanks to an upgraded keyboard.

In addition, it will be possible to choose an image yourself when someone calls from your contact list. So you can decide for yourself which photo will be shown to your contacts when you call them. You have the option to change the layout of the images and you can add names with different fonts. A new option will also be added to the messaging app. This is called Check-In. This allows you to let people know that you have returned home safely after departure.

Automatically receive voice messages as text

Not only existing apps get an upgrade. iOS 17 also has a handy new function that transcribes voicemails. If someone leaves a voicemail, this will be written out completely on your screen. At the moment this is only available abroad. Whether this will also work in the Netherlands is unfortunately not yet known.

Another handy tip: you can now also leave a message with Facetime if there is no answer. You then record a video message and the person who does not record can view this message later.

Which iPhones will iOS 17 work on?

If you would like to use iOS17, it is good to check whether this also works on your iPhone. Not all models support iOS 17. You cannot perform the update with a few old variants, namely on the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X.

New on MacBook

For the real Apple fans it is also good to know that there will also be a fairly small update for Macbooks. For example, you can put widgets in the background. You will immediately see the weather forecast or which tasks you still have to do that day. You can also add profiles to the Safari web browser. This allows you to easily switch between saved favorites and cookies, for example. Apple indicates that you can expect this update later in the year.
