App Store: 9th fine for Apple in the Netherlands and a proposal
Apple has yet to take out the checkbook in the Netherlands, with a 9th fine in the country concerning the App Store. The amount is always the same, namely 5 million euros.
The reason does not move: the policy of the App Store with alternative payments. The local competition authority (ACM) believes that Apple has still failed to comply with an order to allow local dating apps to use third-party payment systems. Apple had made a first proposal, namely to authorize third-party payments but still taking 27% commission (instead of 30% with its own payment system) and forcing developers to submit a specific version of the application . This decision does not please the local competition authority.
Today, the regulator announcement that Apple made him a new proposal to try to find common ground. However, it does not provide any public information on the proposal in question.
In any case, this 9th fine of 5 million euros means that Apple must now pay 45 million euros. A tenth and final fine is possible for next week. Indeed, the regulator has already said that the maximum amount would be 50 million euros.
Some thought so far that Apple preferred to pay this amount (which is intended to be relatively anecdotal for the company) rather than changing its App Store. Today, we learn that a new proposal has emerged, but we will emphasize that it arrives very late. Moreover, nothing says that the Netherlands will accept it.
