Android Auto Coolwalk
At the CES technology show in Las Vegas, Google announced the availability of Android Auto’s new Coolwalk interface. We saw new features, including the ability to call via WhatsApp. A little later, Waze also worked with this new design. Google is quietly working on Coolwalk. This Redditer (via 9to5Google) posts a screenshot of the Coolwalk interface in a light view. He found the picture in the code of the Android Auto app.
Including a light theme might seem like a bit of a step back, especially considering that pretty much everything is moving towards a dark theme now. But such a light theme can really come in handy, especially if you’re driving during the day and there’s too much sunlight. Then you may need such light elements on your screen for readability.

The Redditer found this view in the app’s code. So Google has not yet rolled it out to beta testers as a test. If you see the light theme, please let us know via this e-mail address (please include a screenshot). Like Google Maps, Android Auto will probably get an option to automatically switch between a light theme and a dark theme depending on the time of day.
Would you like to use a light mode for Android Auto? Or do you prefer to stick to dark mode? Let me know in the comments.
