Android 12 is installed on 13.3% of devices before the arrival of Android 13
Google will offer the final version of Android 13 in a few weeks. But what about the installation part of Android 12, knowing that the version was born almost a year ago now? Install share is only 13.3%, let it be known 9to5Google.
Android 11 is the most used version so far with an install share of 27%, up from 23.8% in May. Android 10 is behind with 22.3%. The podium closes with Android 9 and its 14.5% share. This version, which was released four years ago, is therefore more popular than Android 12.
Will Android 13 improve the situation? It seems unlikely, there’s nothing in particular to suggest that the new version – which is normally due to arrive in September, at least on the Google Pixels – will suddenly turn the world upside down and push installation.
What about iOS? It is true that comparing iOS and Android is not an entirely simple task because several elements of iOS require a system update to have new features. On Android, it is possible to have new features in some applications (but not all) just by updating via the Play Store, without necessarily being on the latest version of Android to date. But if a comparison is to be made, then Apple’s latest figures (which date back to May 31) indicate that iOS 15 is installed on 82% of iPhones. The share drops to 14% for iOS 15 and 4% for earlier versions.
