Americans have never been to the moon – claims ex-Rokosmos boss Rogozin

Dmitry Rogozin, the head of the Russian space agency Roskosmos, who was sacked in 2022, has repeatedly made outrageous statements and threats to the USA and Europe since the start of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.

Former Roskosmos boss Rogozin likes to provoke

In March 2022, for example, the hardliner loyal to the Kremlin posted a video showing the destruction of the international space station ISS, got into a fight with a US astronaut and SpaceX boss Elon Musk and agreed that the USA had its own spaceships.

Now the provocative Russian has found a new target for his verbal attacks – the US moon mission Apollo 11. As part of this mission, people landed on the moon for the first time in 1969.

Moon landing targeted by conspiracy theories

At least since the successful moon landing by Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin, conspiracy narrators have been claiming at regular intervals that the whole thing is fake. The “big step for mankind” was recorded in a TV studio.

The “arguments” of the moon landing deniers have been refuted several times by experts. One of the theories, for example, suggests that the Soviet Union and the US government were in cahoots in covering up the alleged fake moon landing.

Finally, it was possible for Soviet observers to get out of the – safely intercepted – radio messages to confirm the success of the US astronauts by triangulation.

Ironically, the ex-Roskosmos boss Rogozin is now trying to raise doubts about the Apollo 11 mission again. According to Rogozin, he did on his Telegram channelallegedly did not get a valid answer to his questions in this direction during his time as head of the authorities.

Rogozin: Unsatisfactory research

According to Rogozin, Roskosmos merely handed him a book as proof of the moon landing, in which the success was reported. Rather, he was internally attacked for his “research” to undermine the “sacred cooperation with Nasa”, like heise.de reports.

According to Rogozin, he was not convinced. One wonders who the former Roskosmos boss asked for the appropriate answers. From the Russian Luna 15 spacecraft, coinciding with Apollo 11 was in lunar orbitRogozin does not seem to have heard anything.

Rogozin’s claim: why now?

So what moves Rogozin to fuel the conspiracy stories about Apollo 11 now of all times? There is no concrete answer to that. However, Rogozin may have taken the current celebrations in Russia of the victory over Nazi Germany in 1945 as an occasion.

In addition, the United States is on the way to putting people on the moon again. And: According to Ars Technica, there is currently a new wave of denials about the success of the Apollo 11 mission, which Rogozin may be using to stir up discord.
