Amazon’s sleep tracker monitors your nocturnal activities without contact and wakes you up at the right time.
Sleep trackers themselves are nothing new. As a rule, however, they come as a bracelet or in the range of functions of the smartwatch. With the Halo Rise, Amazon has introduced a contactless sleep tracker that also functions as an alarm clock.
“Good sleep is an incredibly important factor in our overall health and well-being. In today’s busy world, getting more and better sleep is one of the areas customers ask us about the most, which is why we’re tackling sleep head-on,” said Melissa Cha, vice president of Amazon Smart Home and Health in one press release.
“Halo Rise is designed to work intelligently in the background, giving you a whole new and effortless way to manage your sleep and achieve harmony between sleep and life.”
Halo Rise monitors sleep from the bedside table with contactless sensors. They look at movement and breathing patterns to determine which sleep phase you are currently in.
The tracker recognizes when you fall asleep and starts monitoring. You can look at the data the next morning. Here you can see, among other things, how long you slept and how long you spent in each sleep phase. The tracker differentiates between light sleep phases, deep sleep phases and REM sleep phases.
Other sensors look at your surroundings. This includes room temperature, humidity and light levels during the night. This allows Halo Rise to determine how these factors affect your sleep.
The built-in alarm clock promises to wake you up gently. This works primarily with the built-in LED light, which is intended to simulate a sunrise. The timing is also crucial for this. According to Amazon, Halo Rise should wake you up when you are in a light sleep phase so that you can start the day with a lot of energy.
The company also makes a statement on the subject of privacy. Here it is emphasized that the device has no cameras or microphones. In addition, your data should always be transported securely to the cloud, where it is stored. You can have the data deleted at any time upon request if you wish.
Amazon gives an overview of all the functions and features in the Halo Rise trailer:
The product is due out later this year and will cost around $140. For now, it will only be available in the US. In addition to the Halo Rise, Amazon has introduced many other products, such as the new Ring cameras Spotlight Cam Plus and Pro, the updated Fire TV Cube or the robotic watchdog Astro.
