almost half of readers will not buy a new phone in 2023
A new year, a new phone: this has long been a tradition for many people, but we are increasingly seeing that people opt for a mid-range telephone and want to use it for as long as possible. This is also apparent from our poll: almost half of the readers do not want to buy a new phone in 2023. There are two reasons for this: on the one hand, people just bought a new device in 2022 (21 percent), and on the other hand, people are still very satisfied with their current phone and want to continue using it as long as possible (25 percent). A very durable solution.
New phone in 2023?
It also seems to be a trend that people are using their current phone for longer and longer. Not only because life has already become expensive enough, but also because there simply isn’t that much really exciting happening in the market. That also says glassblower: “Purchased the Pixel 7 in October 2022. That has to go for a while. I like it very much. If Google brings back 3d face recognition and Soli radar on a new model, I will exchange it for a new device. Otherwise I will really keep working with it for 3 years.”
And Stvaarwerk: “I am still in doubt. Normally I pre-order the new top Samsung every year. So that would now be the S23 Ultra, but I think it really differs so little this time compared to the S22 Ultra that I have now. So I’m probably going to skip 1 year for the first time…” In short, telephone makers have to do exciting things if they want to persuade people to spend their money on a new device.
Specs and deals
Yet there are also quite a few readers who are going for a new device this year: 39 percent plan to buy a new phone in 2023. Khalid
for example: “After almost 5 years of a Samsung Galaxy S9+, it’s time for a new one…maybe S22 or S23 ultra.” 14 percent don’t know yet: they let it depend on what is announced this year. Finally, there is another 1 percent who have a different motive for whether or not to buy a new phone this year. Mark.v69 for example, he does not go for specs, but for a good deal: “I will first wait for another promotion with the Samsung Galaxy Flip 4. Now it is with 100 euros cashback, but I do not find that attractive enough. I am still waiting for a promotion with free Earbuds or Watch.”
