It has been discussed for some time and now it is slowly becoming a reality. The European Commission has prepared new rules, according to which all electronic devices sold in the EU should have single connector for charging or communication. Specifically, modern USB-C, which, for example, is already equipped with the vast majority of Android phones. The biggest problem with this initiative is, of course Applewhich still relies on its Lightning.
According to the Commission, the introduction of a uniform type of cables and chargers should contribute to transparency of the market and at the same time to better protect the environment. The forthcoming legislation also envisages that electronics manufacturers would be required to omit charging adapters in their packaging. These will only be able to be sold separately. At the same time, we are talking not only about mobile phones, but also tablets and headphones. If the new rules are approved within the expected deadlines, it should be for manufacturers apply from the beginning of 2024. To prepare, Apple et al. they are about two and a half years old.
