AirPods Pro 2 also test hearing

The next version of the Apple USB-C Airpods Pro 2 will be released this fall, and they contain a special surprise. According to a report, these will be able to test your hearing and detect hearing problems.

Hearing test in USB-C Airpods Pro 2 comes at the right time

Especially because of the noise canceling headphones that are set way too loud, more and more people suffer from hearing damage. Not only the elderly, but also more and more young people are suffering permanent hearing damage because their headphones are much too loud.

So this new invention from Apple, the successor to previous earphones, comes at the right time. This way you discover at an early stage whether you have hearing problems or not, and you can take this into account. For example, did you know that you can be deaf to certain pitches and not others? The AirPods Pro 2 can all determine that with a hearing profile.

Many patent applications fuel speculation

But that’s not all, various patent applications show that Apple also wants to add other sensors to the Apple AirPods Pro 2 to measure more things. For example, the AirPods Pro 2 may be equipped with an ear thermometer. Still other patent applications seem to indicate that the ear is used as a measurement source for the biosensors.

Think of a so-called photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor (3x word value) to measure the heart rate and blood flow in the skin of the ear. Other patent applications suggest things like an electrocardiogram sensor (which picks up the electrical signals of the heartbeat), impedance cardiography (uses the change in resistance to measure heart rate), skin resistance, VO2 sensor (blood oxygen level), and so thermometers.

When applying for patents, companies often tend to make the patent as broad as possible. So the question is whether all these functions will indeed end up in the AirPods Pro 2. But it seems safe to assume that some medical sensors will end up in Apple’s new earphones.

Hearing aid for people with early hearing problems

The earphones can also amplify sounds from the accompanying iPhone and amplify conversations in the area. This would replace an expensive hearing aid. The US health authority FDA has not yet approved the AirPods Pro 2 as such, but in itself it would be a valuable accessory for people with early hearing problems, where there are quite a few. Please note, these are all rumors and not official Apple announcements. Although the sources for the leaks are quite reliable.
