After more than 25 years: Exclusive PlayStation hit should land on the PC

In the past, several PlayStation games have also made it to the PC. A popular racing game hit could soon follow.

Gran Turismo 7: Producer Kazunori Yamauchi open to PC port

Sony is home to a number of good PlayStation exclusive games, but more and more of them are making their way to PC in recent years. These include games like Sackboy, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider-Man and if Kazunori has its way, the popular racing game series could soon be too Gran Turismowhich was first released in 1997, for the PC.

In an interview with GTPlanet, when asked if he was considering a PC version, he said, “Yes, I think so.” However, this would not be an easy task. Gran Turismo is “a very finely tuned title”. There wouldn’t be many platforms where the game could be played in 4K/60p could run natively. It wouldn’t be an easy topic, but definitely worth considering (source: GTPlanet).

The whole thing would also fit into a project by Sony. Back in 2020, SIE indicated that there would be more PlayStation exclusives coming to PC after the release of Horizon Zero Dawn. Sony has the company in the summer of 2021 Acquired Nixxe’s software – best known for working on the PC versions of Square Enix games like Tomb Raider, Hitman and Deus Ex. So Sony is keeping all directions open.

PS exclusive games also on PC: A disadvantage for Sony?

It’s not uncommon for Sony fans to buy a console based on certain games – after all, they are exclusive. For a while now, however, that doesn’t have to mean anything. Although games will probably remain exclusive for 1-2 years, there is a good chance that they will also appear for the PC. Is Sony shooting itself in the foot with this?

Microsoft has also admitted in its recent written response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) that Sony has exclusive titles that higher quality are than the others. “Both Sony’s and Nintendo’s exclusive first-party games are among the best-selling in Europe and worldwide,” the company said. So does it make sense to release popular games for other platforms as well?

The whole thing has advantages and disadvantages. While the number of hardware purchases might fall, in the end the company is reaching so many more gamers and probably does software sales a definite plus.
