After iPhone, the BMW key will also come to Android
The traditional car key can stay at home. Simply unlock your BMW with the iPhone or Android as a key.
Travel light. It’s great to take as little stuff as possible with you. Especially in the summer if, for example, you wear shorts without pockets and don’t have a jacket with you. The smartphone is a golden resource in that respect. It replaces, among other things, your bank card, but also the car key.
BMW previously unveiled the Digital Key. A feature for selected models in combination with the Apple iPhone. Now BMW is also bringing the digital key to Android. Please note, only smartphones approved by BMW will work in combination with the Digital Key.
The first Android smartphones that work as a BMW key are the Samsung Galaxy S21 and the Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. You can unlock it by holding your smartphone next to the car. The engine can also be started when the smartphone is positioned on the surface to wirelessly charge the device in the BMW. All this works via the My BMW app on the smartphone itself.
At the time of writing, the feature does not yet work in the Netherlands unfortunately. In Germany, France, Italy and Spain, for example. Hopefully the feature will also come to the Netherlands in the not too distant future.
