A smart watch saved a 78-year-old man’s life
Smart watches are undoubtedly a great helper, whether for exercise or normal activities. But did you know that they can also save lives? Apple Watches are equipped with a handy Fall Detector feature that calls for help if a watch user falls and does not respond to prompts. It was this function that saved 78-year-old Mike Yager’s life, informs the Phone Arena portal.
The fall detector called an ambulance and gave her Mike’s location
Mike fell on his driveway and fainted. Because he is over 65 years old, his Apple Watch has the Fall Detector feature enabled by default. The device tried to take it over after the fall, but Mike didn’t respond. The watch therefore dialed 911 and provided its location to the rescue service.
The firefighters managed to take him over upon arrival, but Mike was shocked and had no idea how the help got there. He was pleasantly surprised to find that his smart watch had done it. Now he can’t praise them and even though they are more expensive than classic watches, he also recommends them to other seniors. Mike’s wife Lori is also grateful for this position. She is aware that the situation could have ended much worse if the watch had not called on her husband’s help.
“I think the situation was serious because he was unconscious. I wouldn’t be home until a few hours later and who knows what would have happened before. ” said Mike’s wife.
