Viewers of Love Is In The Air did not keep it dry last night: in the episode a grandfather from Canada saw his grandson for the first time. And for the last time, because the man is terminally ill.

It produced very special images.

The Canadian Joel lives with his wife Noortje and newborn son Finn in the Netherlands. The family has gone through a pretty rough time: after they became pregnant through an IVF process, Finn was born way too early. Joel would like to travel to Canada as soon as possible. Not only to show his baby, but also because his father has prostate cancer and does not live long. ‘I want Finn to have seen his grandfather at least once’, he tells Robert ten Brink. The presenter has good news: the family is flying to Canada to reunite.

Touching moment

When Joel’s parents hear that their son is at the door, they can’t hold back their tears. And then comes the second surprise: Noortje and Finn also came along. Between tears and hugs, Finn sits on his grandfather’s lap for a moment. A moving moment. The family will stay in Canada for two weeks. Joel hopes to visit his father again soon, but for Noortje and Finn it will probably be the last time.
