Will Samsung soon release the smartphone handbrake? – GIGA Insights
If a Samsung smartphone is sold in Europe, then there is almost certainly an Exynos chip working in it. If there are new plans that have now become known, that could change soon. You can find out that and what else happened this week in this issue of GIGA Insights.
Samsung Galaxy: soon without Exynos processor?
As is well known, Samsung is pursuing a two-pronged strategy with its smartphones and tablets: in North America and the Asian markets, Galaxy smartphones are released with a Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm, while in Europe the same devices are sold with an Exynos from Samsung’s own production.
This leads to a curious situation. In the past few years, a bottleneck in particular had emerged with Samsung devices. The smartphones sold in Germany with Exynos processors not only fell short of expectations in many tests, but also in a direct comparison with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon in some respects – most recently, for example, the graphics performance.
That could change soon. According to an internal conversation picked up by the Korean news site Inews24, Samsung not only wants to remove the Exynos, but also wants to produce its own chip exclusively for the Galaxy smartphones.
You can find out what that means for you in the GIGA Insights, you can find the video at the top of the article.
Unreal Engine 5 released
There was also news from Epic Games. The latest version of the Unreal Engine has been released after already being presented in December with the impressive The Matrix Awakens demo. In addition, some announcements: Both “The Witcher 4” and a new “Tomb Raider” are said to be in the making with the newly released engine. And if you want to lend a hand yourself, “Reality Scan” is a practical app for easily creating 3D models.
