‘My partner and I give each other three hours of me-time a week’

Not all of us realize that me-time is one of the most important pillars in parenting, notes the father. “Children are great. They are sweet and funny and we love them, but they can also be exhausting. And people need time to recharge.’ That’s why Clint gives his wife Mel “off” after dinner on Thursdays. He cleans up, does all the chores around the house and puts the kids to bed. Mel, in turn, takes care of the Sunday afternoon: between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM, Clint literally locks herself in the bedroom.

‘The best gift’
“We’ve been doing this for years,” admits Clint. ‘Sometimes we move the free hours because there really cannot be any other way, but if I’ve learned anything, it’s that you have to stick to it. Don’t give up your own time. Be territorial about it and take it from it, because you deserve it. And do you notice that your partner finds it difficult to take that free time? Then force him or her, because time for yourself is the best gift you can give someone.’
