35 percent of our readers don’t subscribe to HBO Max

HBO Max is finally coming to the Netherlands. The service has been out in the United States since May 2020 and will make the crossing on March 8. However, not everyone is waiting for it: 35 percent of our readers say they will stay with their current providers and not subscribe to HBO Max.

HBO Max is basically like Netflix: you have your own profile and you can watch movies and series with the push of a button. Ready to watch? Then HBO Max will give you new options that may suit you. HBO Max has, among others, the films of Warner Bros (so for example DC and Harry Potter), but also series such as Friends, Sex and the City and The Big Bang Theory. The Sopranos and Game of Thrones are also part of HBO Max’s offer, which will soon include the spin-offs of Game of Thrones and Sex and the City.

In short, there is certainly a lot of popular content on it, which in some cases has also won many awards. Still, 35 percent of our readers don’t think a subscription to HBO Max is worth it. However, the division is wide: as many as 30 percent will definitely subscribe to HBO Max, while 26 percent are not yet sure what they will do. Finally, there are also 9 percent of readers who have no subscriptions to streaming services at all.

Dio Vayne will probably take out a subscription. He says: “I mainly watch Adult Swim’s offerings on HBO, such as Tim & Eric, Tigtone and Rick & Morty.” NielsL is starting to lose sight of all the streaming service trees and chooses not to take HBO Max: ” We already have internet/telephony/television at Ziggo, Netflix and Disney+. Spotify for music. It’s a bit of fun for me….”

Well, you never know how things will turn out: for example, if we are allowed to do everything again in the future and we are happy not to be home for a while, fewer people will probably take out a subscription than if we spend a lot of time indoors again. But as it stands, HBO Max is definitely not for everyone.
