‘Why as a mother I want a crowded agenda’ | kek mama
Active kids
‘All I have to do is pick up my kids from school or a day out, and they’re already asking what we’re going to do next,’ says Amber. ‘My children, one of 8 and twins of 6, are very social and active. They got that from me, because I also do all kinds of things: yoga, running, crossfit, working, meeting friends. The children grew up with that. They are used to people walking in and out of our house and that we often go out. They really need that bustle.’
Irritations
Amber does not understand families who stay at home all day to laze and relax. ‘My children can enjoy themselves just fine, but being at home too much does make them excited and irritated at a certain point. I also get a hundred more questions and they want more snacks.’ It quickly becomes a nightmare, Amber describes. “I’m going to scream, because my annoyances are mounting, and I like my children less.”

only adventure
It doesn’t get any more fun for the children themselves. ‘They do play games and build the biggest fortresses with their toys, but they are also happier if we go outside to do something. That’s why we often go cycling, to the park, the library or the swimming pool – sometimes all on the same day. We go from one adventure to another. For some families such a busy schedule will be too much, but it works for us.’
