Windows 11: Android apps for everyone are finally launching
Actually, Windows 11 should already support Android apps at the time of release. Instead, the feature was deferred and released to developers some time ago. Microsoft has now announced that the technology developed in cooperation with Amazon and Intel for running Android apps ready for the public is (source: windows blog). The function will be activated for selected users in February with the next Windows update. If this runs smoothly, all Windows 11 users should soon be able to access it.
The step should not be taken now without reason. Google recently announced that the company itself is bringing Android games to Windows devices. There is no cooperation between Google and Microsoft for Windows 11, so that Google goes its own way here. The big advantage of Google’s solution is that it will provide synchronization of games and apps via Google services. Of course, Microsoft cannot offer that with Amazon. A small battle for Android apps on the PC is looming.
Microsoft has also announced other changes:
- Taskbar improvements with mute and unmute.
- Easier window sharing.
- Display of the weather in the taskbar.
- Notepad and Media Player have been completely redesigned.
