YouTube Premium and Music: the price of the annual subscription

YouTube Premium and YouTube Music have until now offered a monthly subscription, now an annual subscription has appeared. It wants to be more interesting financially speaking.

Arrival of the annual subscription at YouTube

New subscribers are currently the only ones eligible for the annual YouTube Premium and YouTube Music subscription. What’s more, it’s restricted to residents of Germany, Brazil, Canada, United States, India, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Thailand, and Turkey. France and other countries do not currently have the right to do so, without anyone really knowing why.

What is the price ? That’s $107.99 per year for YouTube Premium. In comparison, the price per month is 11.99 dollars (11.99 euros in France), or 143.88 dollars over 12 months. Those who take the subscription for the year are thus entitled to the equivalent of a discount of 35.89 dollars, or 2.99 dollars per month, with the new formula.

As for YouTube Music, it’s $89.99 for the year, compared to $9.99 per month (or $119.88 per year) with the basic offer. The discount here is $29.89, or the equivalent of $2.49 per month.

Youtube precise that the offers with the discounts are available until January 23, but does not say what will happen after that date. Will the annual subscription completely disappear? Or will it still be available at a slightly higher price? It’s a mystery for now.

The new subscription is available from the web and the Android app, but not from the iOS app. YouTube certainly wants to avoid paying the 30% commission to Apple. As a reminder, YouTube Premium removes advertisements, allows listening in the background and offers the possibility of downloading videos. As for YouTube Music, it is a competing streaming service of Spotify and Apple Music.
