Nvidia announces its GeForce RTX 3080 with 12 GB of memory

Nvidia today announced a new variant of its GeForce RTX 3080 with 12 GB of memory. As a reminder, the original model is equipped with 10 GB of memory. We therefore have a gain of 2 GB.

More RAM with the GeForce RTX 3080

A gain in memory is welcome, especially since this had been a source of concern for some people with the original model. This also corresponds to the 12 GB found on the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.

The GeForce RTX 3080 with 12 GB of memory also includes 8,960 CUDA compute units, compared to 8,704 on the 10 GB model, an increase of almost 3%. The increase in memory also means that the graphics card has 20% more cumulative bandwidth compared to the original model, thanks to a larger 384-bit memory bus. For the RT calculation unit, we go from 68 to 70. And for the Tensor calculation unit, it was 272 on the original model and 280 this time.

There is also a change in energy consumption. It is 350 W, against 320 W for the original model. Regardless, Nvidia still recommends a 750W power supply.

The GeForce RTX 3080 with 12 GB of memory is available today. “Available” is a big word since the stock is already exhausted. This is unfortunately the case with the various graphics cards from Nvidia or AMD. What is the price ? It is difficult to give one, it depends on the resellers. It seems to vary around 1,800 euros. We are even approaching 2,000 euros at resellers.
