Annihilation cost only $ 4 million and will have a sequel -apkrig
In 2019, director and screenwriter Tony Giglio made the film Doom: Annihilation based on the eponymous brand from the id Software studio. The developers cut themselves off from the project a bit when they publicly said that they had nothing to do with the direct-to-video image. In addition to the brand, of course. The film full of easter eggs was shot in Bulgaria and of course it didn’t make a big hole in the world. But when Game Rant magazine published an article entitled “Doom: Which film adaptation is worse?”, It probably attracted more attention than its author might have expected. For the text responded director Tony Giglio himself (thanks, Bludr). And at the same time he revealed a few interesting details.
Giglio says first of all that he has no problem with someone not liking his film. The viewer invests his time and money, and he respects that. However, according to him, it bothers him when someone bases such an opinion with false information. Giglio revealed that the film’s budget was only $ 4 million and he made money on himself. Although something else is claimed. In terms of his success, Tony Giglio snapped that Universal Pictures had already paid him for the sequel. So another part should be created.
Tony Giglio also revealed that they offered id Software and Bethesda cooperation, but they refused, saying they made games and not movies. They also discussed that the fans would ask about it and agreed to say that they were not involved in the project.
The director asks the rhetorical question of whether the studio would do it if the film were a financial failure. It also disputes that id Software distanced itself from the adaptation due to quality, as we have pointed out before. He emphasizes that the team representative only said one of the fans that he was not involved in the film. Which was true. They also discussed that the fans would ask about it and agreed to say that they were not involved in the project.
The director also emphasizes that they adapted the original games and not the modern ones. He confesses that Doom was his coveted project, and it took him several years to convince Universal to do it. Why? Because the first 2005 film starring Karl Urban, Rosamund Pike and Dwayne Johnson, which was also shot in the Czech Republic, is said to have lost tens of millions of dollars. Therefore, the new adaptation received only a budget of four million. Giglio says his film is not perfect. According to him, the filmmakers were too ambitious and made mistakes.
He thanked the author of the article for watching the film, as did many other people, he says. He was among the trends on Netflix when released. Thanks to that, it can have a sequel.
He says there is no recipe for a great movie. If he was, there would never be a bad movie. But they allegedly worked hard and tried to make Doom faithful under difficult conditions. According to him, he is proud of the result. According to him, if someone wants to burn on him, don’t worry. But if such a person supports his arguments with untruths, then he loses credibility. Asked by one of the fans, Tony Giglio specified that he should also direct another film if there was no collision between the diaries when Universal puts it into production. Doom: Annihilation offered Giglio the studio in 2015, but was initially rejected. Universal was convinced of the success of the game in 2016. The film was shot in 2018 and in 2019 there were some finishing touches. There was talk that the studio was pleasantly surprised by the quality and released more money for other effects. Giglio himself argues that the first adaptation of 2005 was not faithful enough to the original, which he wanted to change.
