readers prefer to look out for phone repairs

More and more phone suppliers seem to be planning to give owners the opportunity to fix their smartphone themselves. A new screen for example, you should be able to do that yourself, right? The Androidworld readers are not so sure yet: 40 percent let the do-it-yourself depend on how complicated the job is.

Fix your phone yourself

Some people find it challenging to pull the case off their phone, let alone unscrew the device and replace entire parts. However, it shouldn’t be that hard at all. After all, Apple, and possibly also Xiaomi, wants to provide smartphone owners with explanations and parts to carry out repairs themselves from now on. That is a challenge: one that we wanted to know if Androidworld readers would dare to take it.

In the poll we asked this week: would you dare to repair a telephone yourself? It turned out: 40 percent depend on how complicated the job is, 15 percent already fix their phone themselves and 20 percent think he or she is a handy Harry who can probably do it himself. 25 percent of readers prefer to have their phone repaired by a company that specializes in this. Few people chose the latter option: less than 1 percent have no opinion about it.

DIY

Peter C. has chosen the option ‘I already repair my phone myself’, because he says: Peter.C: “Last year I replaced the back camera of my Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite (out of warranty) myself. Total costs < 20€ including investment, a handy set of tools that can be guaranteed to come in handy later…” This saved you a lot of money: not only on parts and repairs, but also on avoiding having to buy a whole new device.

However, there are also many people who question the warranty on a smartphone. mrronald for example: “Something will go wrong soon, no guarantee. I would not dare! Phones are way too expensive these days to do it yourself.”

AW Poll: readers prefer to look out of the tree for phone repairs

Guarantee

Katty adds: “I have questions regarding warranty law. Okay, if your device is already outside the warranty period and it breaks down and you are handy enough, you can take a chance. But if your device is still broken during the warranty period and you are going to repair it yourself, … I don’t know whether that is wise. It is often stated in the warranty conditions that you are not allowed to tinker with it yourself. If you do so, you sometimes lose your warranty.”

In short, great that smartphone makers make this possible, but then they also have to take a look at the warranty conditions. Only then will repairing your phone yourself be a guaranteed success. Until the next poll!
