When will HarmonyOS come to Europe? It won’t be that near

Huawei has released a stable version of its system HarmonyOS 2.0 in the Chinese market already in June. Since then, there have been several reports that it should soon be available in Europe as well, but this has never happened. And according to the portal HuaweiCentral it almost won’t be.

Speculation about the availability of HarmonyOS in Europe has been fueled by a screenshot of the new update

The availability of the system for the European market began to be discussed again when a screenshot of the new HarmonyOS update appeared on the Internet. It’s numbered HarmonyOS 2.0.0.209 and brings a number of new features, including a common task center between multiple devices. This update is erroneously referred to as being intended for global versions of Huawei smartphones.

Portal HuaweiCentral recalls, however, that the report version of this update has the number C00E207R5P6, which is the Chinese region code. The update is certainly not intended for the global market and therefore not for Europe. According to the portal, even HarmonyOS will not appear in Europe so soon. Our editorial staff has already asked a question about the availability of it on the European market to the Slovak representation of Huawei, and we are currently waiting for an answer.

In China, Huawei has already upgraded more than 100 million smartphones to HarmonyOS

While the new system is still not available on the global market, more than 120 million devices have already received it in China. The main idea behind HarmonyOS 2.0 is to create a single platform for smart devices of all kinds. Huawei wants to offer customers a unified user experience, one well-known system that adapts to different types of devices.

Its interface is thus adapted for smartphones, tablets, smart watches, smart devices in the home or even cars. Graphically, it is based on the long-term EMUI superstructure that Huawei uses for Android smartphones. It was the effort to get rid of Google’s dependence on Android that was the driving force for Huawei to create its own system.

Due to a 2019 ban from the US Department of Commerce selling US Huawei technologies, the manufacturer’s new Android smartphones lack Google certification. As a result, Google applications and the Google Play store cannot be used either. Huawei hopes that the new system will eventually be adopted by competing Chinese manufacturers, who also fear similar sanctions from the United States.
