Apple cleaning cloth of 25 euros is already sold out

In addition to the new MacBook Pro and AirPods 3, Apple has a new product in its shop since the October keynote: an Apple cleaning cloth of 25 euros. The most remarkable? It’s already sold out.

Apple polishing cloth cleans your screen

Displays tend to get filthy, and touchscreens have that problem even more so. That’s just a fact. A microfibre cloth, some paper towels and a little cleaning alcohol sometimes work wonders. But to clean the screen surface of an Apple product? You just need some special ‘hardware’ for that.

Just after the October 2021 keynote, a new accessory appeared in the Apple Store. The official Apple cleaning cloth, worth 25 euros. And despite the high price, the cloth is already sold out.

A cloth for 25 euros

The so-called ‘Polishing cloth’, simply ‘Cleaning cloth’ in Dutch, has been available in the Apple Store since the beginning of the week. Apparently it is a modified version of the cloth for Apple’s screens with a nano texture.

Such a cloth was included in the box of the iMac 27-inch with such a screen, as with Pro Display XDR. However, it was never for sale separately. According to Apple, the nano-textured screens should only be cleaned with that cloth.

Cleans everything, even nano textures

Apparently, this is now also recommended for the new MacBook Pro models with Liquid Retina XDR display, although these have no nano-texture at all. “With this soft and non-abrasive cleaning cloth you can safely and efficiently clean all Apple displays, for example those with nano-textured glass,” Apple says in the product description.

There is even a list of compatible devices. It contains all Apple devices with a display that are still actively supported. So those are the screens with nano texture, but also all iPhones from the 6.

The cloth has – as befits Apple – rounded corners and a logo. Nothing is said about size and weight. There is also not a word about possible gold fibers in the cloth.

Apple cleaning cloth already sold out

Apparently the new product is very popular. Shortly after the Apple cleaning cloth appeared in the Store, the delivery time started to increase. You now have to wait about 10 to 12 weeks. In the worst case, you will not receive the cloth until 2022.

Why the cloth is so special and justifies the high price, Apple has not yet said. It is somewhat reminiscent of the wheels for the Mac Pro. Although those with a price of 849 euros are even more extreme.
