Mattel is bringing its adult 60th birthday toy phone
Were you born after 1960? If so, then you are probably familiar with the brightly colored toy telephone from Fisher-Price, which often appeared in children’s series when I was a child. Any number of fictitious calls could be made with a rotary dial, and the toy could be dragged into all rooms by rolling.
Since its introduction, the design has been revised again and again, but the toy is still sold today for a price of around 10 euros. For those who are nostalgic for their 60th birthday, there is also a variant for adults.
In terms of appearance, the version for adults differs only marginally from the original, but any smartphone can be connected via Bluetooth. And then the fun can begin: The rotary dial can be used to dial your friends’ phone number, if you grew up using only buttons, you can see how your parents used to make calls.
But your friends can also reach you this way. If someone calls you and you pick up the phone, the call will be answered automatically. If that is still too cumbersome for you, simply tap the button to activate the hands-free system. When the conversation is over, you can disconnect by hanging up the phone.
The toy for adults is operated by a battery, one charge should be enough for 9 hours of calls or enable stand-by operation over three days. The accessory is charged via a micro USB cable. The device is available from American dealers Best Buy, the adult version is $ 60.
Own opinion:
The special edition that toy manufacturer Mattel is bringing onto the market is a nice idea and should evoke pleasant memories for some. The use is logically limited, but it should cause a laugh or two if you take a call on the device or use the rotary dial for calls.
