Google’s new top smartphones arrive on October 19th
It’s official: Google will present its new in-house top smartphones on October 19th. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will be the first models with their own tensor chip and distinctive design.
Google had already started teasing its next generation of smartphones in August. Even then, the manufacturer showed what the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro look like and that they will be equipped with a specially developed processor for the first time. The date for the pixel event has now been set.
The one especially for the pixel event established website Apart from the date and time – the event starts on October 19 at 7 p.m. Central European Summer Time – doesn’t look like much at first glance. A click on the FAQ button (“Frequently asked questions”) explains that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be officially presented during the event – “the completely redesigned Google phones “. They are “powered by Tensor, Google’s first proprietary mobile chip, and are fast, intelligent and secure,” the company said.
The manufacturer also declares that “they adapt to you”. What Google means by this is obvious on the website: Because one of the new Pixel 6 models is emblazoned on the side, the appearance of which you can change with a longer press on the space bar on your computer keyboard or the button on your smartphone .
The focus is on the new dynamic theme of Android 12, with which the design of the user interface changes based on the wallpaper you have chosen, among other things. The new customizable widgets and icons also play a role in the demonstration of the Pixel 6.
The features shown, which will also be available on older Pixel models with the release of the already finished Android 12, should only be part of what Google has in store for its upcoming smartphones on the software side. We assume that with the help of our own tensor chip, some new, smart functions will migrate to the devices.
The two Pixel models might also not be the only new products, even if Google makes it appear that way in its announcement. Because a preliminary version of Android 12.1 suggeststhat the manufacturer has a foldable in the making. The as yet unreleased update has adjustments for large, foldable screens. The idea of a foldable is not considered completely secure, but Google may give a little foretaste.
However, Google will not be the only manufacturer to host an event this year. Apple also has one or the other product in the pipeline, which may be revealed in the course of October. Among other things, new Macbook Pros with a fast M1X chip and new Airpods are likely to be presented.
