O2 expands the 5G network and brings double the data in flat rates
The commercial operation of the 5G network was started by the O2 operator almost a year ago in selected parts of Bratislava. The network is now expanding and the inhabitants of 15 cities in western Slovakia are the first to try it. The operator chose Ericsson as the supplier. By the end of the year, it is planned to expand the coverage of the territory of eastern Slovakia.
- The 5G network is already available in 15 locations
- This will be covered by other sites, especially in the east
- By the end of the year, O2 plans to cover 20% of the population with a 5G network
- The technology is supplied by Ericsson
“After we were the first to start the commercial test operation of the 5G network for all customers in selected parts of Bratislava last year, it is time to expand it beyond its borders. Residents of Bratislava, Pezinok, Ivanka pri Dunaji, Zálesia, Malinov, Bernolákov, Croatian Tomb, Slovak Tomb, Viničný, Pezinok, Modra, Šenkvíc, Dubová, Jaroviec and Rusovice can join our new network today. In a relatively short time, however, other areas will be added, and we plan to cover about 20% of Slovakia’s population by the end of the year. “

Double the data in SMART packages, later for an extra charge
“In order for customers to experience the benefits of the 5G network, we double the volume within the tariff they use every month. Customers of the Blue O2 SMART Package will be able to use 2 GB instead of 1 GB with a surcharge of € 1. Customers of the Silver Tariff will have a total of up to 6 GB available with a surcharge of € 2 and customers of the Golden even up to 20 GB with a surcharge of only € 3. Even better news is that temporarily by the end of January 2022, we will double this volume without any charge.”

Improving Internet service at home
“With the advent of 5G technology and the replacement of the radio part of the network, the achieved speeds will increase significantly and customers will be able to surf at a speed of 1 Gbit / s. At O2, we are currently working on testing and selecting 5G devices for the Internet service at home, which will be able to ensure a quality and stable connection with such high speeds. While the current Internet connection could compete with older metallic networks in its parameters, along with 5G technology on single-vendor devices that will serve all frequency spectra, they will be closer to optical networks. The biggest advantage of such a network is that it covers larger areas without the need for a costly and lengthy cable digging process. ”
