At its Future Imaging Technology conference, Oppo unveiled its plans for photography. The Chinese company has just unveiled its latest generation sensor to revolutionize cameras on its smartphones.
Chinese smartphone makers have contributed a lot to the global market. First thanks to Huawei, which has become a benchmark in the field of photography. Xiaomi presented earlier a fast charging technology that will equip the future Mix 4. For its part, Oppo has just held a conference where it presented a series of innovations in the field of smartphone photography. The goal is to work on a real optical zoom to put it in place on a long-term device.
Oppo intends to rely on continuous zoom technology
First of all, it is the new latest generation RGBW sensor that is highlighted. In view of its name, it adds white instead of the traditional RGB. This brand new module can capture more light up to 60%. At the same time, the noise would be reduced by 35%. With its proprietary 4 pixels in 1 technology, color fidelity will be much closer to reality. This photographic sensor should be integrated into the manufacturers’ devices in the coming months.
Buying guide: the best smartphones for taking pictures
The great strength of the innovations presented by the manufacturer is also the sensor. It is an optical zoom capable of capturing images over a focal length range between 85 and 200mm. This innovation resembles what is offered on the Xperia 1 III. In fact, it is an optical zoom x4 available with this continuous zoom. This would make it possible to exceed the current focal limits and offer a much better quality as is.
Finally, an optical stabilization on 5 axes would also be implemented on the future devices of the manufacturer. It is a system allowing to gain speed to the sensors for taking pictures.
What revolution for the telephony market?
As mentioned above, these brand new elements will bring great progress in photography. The RGBW sensor will improve shots taken in low light, but that’s not all. The quality of the textures, with a much more polished portrait mode. The algorithms developed by Oppo will also allow better image processing.
But these provisions confirm that the hardware is more important than the software.. If the continuous optical zoom proves to be effective, the Chinese manufacturer will have a real head start on the rest of the market. The brand’s innovations could thus arrive on the Find X4 Pro.
