Mid-range smartphone with a large battery is coming this week
Google’s new middle class is said to be presented on August 17th. The Pixel 5a is similar to the Pixel 5 or 4a 5G, but it should have a significantly larger battery. For the time being, however, it will probably avoid Europe.
While Google’s focus is on the presentation of the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, which are the spearhead of the in-house smartphone portfolio and are supposed to shine for the first time with uncompromising high-end equipment, the Pixel 5a is likely to be presented later this week. The new mid-range model should inherit the Pixel 4a (test), but in terms of size it should be more like the 4a 5G.

Google Pixel 5a will be announced on August 17th
Rumors have been circulating about the Pixel 5a for months. In April, Google itself confirmed the existence of the mid-range smartphone when reports circulated that the manufacturer had crushed the device due to a lack of chips. At that time it was said: “The Pixel 5a 5G is not discontinued. It will be available later this year in the US and Japan and will be announced in line with the launch of last year’s A-Series phone ”. With the statement, Google already confirmed the rough release timeframe. The Pixel 4a was introduced in August and went on sale in the US a little later.
According to sources from Android Police and the Leaker John Prosser the Pixel 5a should be presented on August 17th and be available shortly thereafter. In terms of equipment, it should be based on the Pixel 5 (test) or the Pixel 4a 5G.

Google Pixel 5a may be a cross-country skier
A Snapdragon 765G is said to be installed as the processor, which is supported by six gigabytes of RAM. For the dual camera, Google probably relies on the tried-and-tested combination of 12-megapixel wide-angle and 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle cameras from last year’s models.
Particularly noteworthy is the significantly larger battery compared to its predecessors, from which Android Police claims to have received a photo from a spare parts supplier: The battery of the Pixel 5a will therefore be 4,680 mAh. For comparison: The Pixel 4a 5G has a battery with 3,885, the Pixel 5 one with 4,080 mAh. In view of the fact that the 2020 models already delivered very good runtimes, the new 5a could become a real cross-country skier.
Further features were leaked some time ago: For example, it will supposedly have a 6.4-inch OLED FHD Plus screen with a repetition rate of 90 Hertz, although Google’s mid-range models have so far offered 60 Hertz. That would make it bigger than last year’s Pixel devices. There is also talk of dust and water tightness according to IP67 protection class and a headphone connection.
The device is said to be priced at $ 450, which is even $ 50 below the Pixel 4a. There will probably not be a euro price for the time being, as Google will only be selling the device in a few markets – USA and Japan. What is certain, however, is that Google will bring its Pixel 6 models to Europe. But they should possibly cost more than twice as much as the mid-range device.
