Samsung sales fell, and Apple did better. The reason is the lack of microchips

At the end of the second quarter of 2021, analysts released new data on the market dominance of several mobile phone manufacturers. For the past three months, according to the SamMobile website, the South Korean giant Samsung is still the leader in the smartphone market. However, in terms of sales, the Xiaomi brand managed to overtake Apple and became the world’s second largest smartphone company.

The lack of semiconductor components is the main culprit for why Samsung has seen a decline in sales

In the second quarter of the current year, smartphone sales rose by up to 25 percent. We take into account all existing companies. Samsung’s sales deteriorated by 24 percent in the quarter, but is still a 7 percent year-on-year increase. The South Korean giant sold 58 million smartphones this quarter, but lost 4 percent market share, accounting for 18 percent of the entire global mobile phone market.

In terms of revenue shares, Apple had a staggering 41 percent in the second quarter of 2021. However, Samsung’s revenue share fell from 17 percent in the second quarter of 2021 to 15 percent a year later. Xiaomi also managed to increase its revenue share from 6 percent to 9 percent.

The reason for Samsung’s decline is the global shortage of semiconductor components. Apple did not encounter a similar problem because it is establishing good relationships with suppliers and probably also had some stocks of microchip components.

With the addition of materials needed to produce critical components that will be needed almost always, Samsung is most likely to rise to the highest level again. Microchips will still be here and they need to be gradually improved in the future.
