Do you have a PS5? Then you can upgrade it now
Are you one of the lucky ones who does have a PS5? Then you now have the opportunity to upgrade the PS5.
Slowly more and more people have the PS5 from Sony. The device is still limited available, so many people are still waiting for the console. Whoever does have the device runs into a known problem. This is the storage, which is quite small. Or the games need more storage, depending on how you look at it. There is now a solution for that.
PS5 upgrade
It’s finally possible to increase your SSD storage for your PS5. Sounds easy, but in practice it really isn’t. It’s a lot more complicated than just plugging in a USB drive. You must be a PS5 beta user in America, Canada or parts of Europe. That is already quite difficult, especially because our continent is not fully participating. In addition, you need a PCIe Gen4 SSD for read speeds of 5,500 MB/s or higher. Then you can choose from Samsung, Western Digital and Seagate.
Cooling is necessary
If you meet the above criteria, that’s great. But then you’re not there yet. Sony does not make it easy, because if you would like more storage, you also have to cool the PS5 more. The manufacturer notes in its guide that for SSD upgrades you also have to take into account the cooling mechanism of the device. This may mean adding an additional cooling system to your SSD, or choosing a compatible SSD with the built-in cooling structure. Check this carefully, the cooling system must also be the right size. Otherwise it won’t fit…
The feature will roll out to non-beta PS5 users later this year.
