PlayStation 5 finally starts supporting SSD -apkrig expansion
Official support for the M.2 SSD on the PlayStation 5 is finally on the way. The ability to expand storage space is one of the most common wishes of owners. Until now, it was possible to connect an external drive to the PS5 via USB, but it was not possible to play PS5 games via it. Only PS4 titles worked this way.
Not only speed but also maximum dimensions are prescribed. The manufacturer says it cannot promise that all M.2 SSDs will work.
It is necessary to expand the internal storage for the needs of PS5 games with the help of high-speed M.2 SSDs, which meet the relatively precise requirements of Sony. Those who test the firmware in the beta version will be the first to see this option, then the public version will come. The beta is even available in some regions. On the official website, PlayStation has opened a special page in the support section, which is completely dedicated to adding a new disc.
Not only speed but also maximum dimensions are prescribed. The manufacturer says it cannot promise that all M.2 SSDs will work, and therefore cannot guarantee the performance of third-party products. And even if the speed is sufficient, it is not obvious that the result will be the same in all cases as when playing from the internal storage.

By the way, the recommended data read speed is 5500 MB / s and faster. Capacity can be from 250 GB to 4 TB. Unlike the Xbox Series, in this case, to expand the storage, you need to open the console itself, so you need to have the appropriate screwdriver on hand and be careful.
At the same time, Seagate confirmed that its FireCuda 530 NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSD will be compatible with PS5. The tests the company did directly with Sony and the FireCuda 530 has met all the requirements. It offers read speeds of up to 7300 MB / s. The 500GB version will cost $ 170, the 1TB version $ 275, the 2TB version $ 570 and the 4TB version $ 1,050. Seagate itself says that there is not much disk space in the console and that it will fit thanks to the controversial design. Coincidentally, Seagate also manufactures a certified 1 TB Xbox Series expansion memory card. It is usually sold in our country for 6 to 7 thousand crowns, depending on the specific trader. Its involvement is incomparably easier.
Earlier, Bloomberg brought the unofficial news that Sony is also tuning the operation of the fan, which must be able to cope with additional excess heat after the expansion of the SSD. Experts have warned from the beginning that the price of these discs will be high, at least initially, and it will certainly not wait for the results of the first tests to find out what they perform best.
