Pictures show possible design of the Duo successor
It wasn’t that long ago that Microsoft made a second attempt at the smartphone market. After the quick and costly demise, they wanted to quickly forget about Windows Mobile and adapt Android to their own needs. The result was a relatively interesting device – the Surface Duo – which stood out from the crowd with two separate screens. For the proud price of over 1,500 euros, the Surface Duo was hardly competitive.
Microsoft now seems to be slowly learning from the predominant hardware failures of the past. At least one publication of the first leaked pictures suggests, which are believed to be credible and should show the second generation of the Surface Duo. The device is to be presented in September or October.
If we look at the published pictures, we first see a significant upgrade in the camera. This year, like many competitors, there will be three lenses (telephoto, ultra-wide and standard), and the result is a rather clumsy-looking module on the back. Furthermore, the fingerprint sensor should now have a place in the power button.
Elsewhere, however, there should be hardly any changes. Only the new chipset, which probably supports 5G and NFC, should be mentioned here. The design remains true to the Microsoft design language, perhaps the company will manage to reduce the large display bezels a little this year.
Own opinion:
The Microsoft Surface Duo has always been a device that didn’t really want to fit into a target group. Those who prefer a foldable device often found significantly better devices in a similar price range from Huawei and Samsung. In terms of equipment, the duo could hardly keep up with “normal” Android smartphones. So it remains to be seen whether Microsoft will surprise this year or whether it will again present an interesting device with little benefit.
