Instagram makes likes disappear and brings insights for reels and live
Instagram is now also bringing its statistics function to the Tiktok clone Reels and the live streaming format Live. If you want, you can also completely hide the “Like” message in the future.
Let’s start with the new feature for everyone. It all started when Instagram no longer wanted to show how many people had liked them and how many had left a comment.

Mental stress from fighting with numbers
At least the reasoning was understandable. Especially among adolescents and young adults, the prominent display of sheer numbers creates immense psychological pressure. The motto is higher, faster, further.
In the long run, this would also damage those who cannot complain about the success – therefore, they belong to the much-liked. After an initial storm of indignation, calm quickly returned.
Now Instagram works just as it did before, only without the prominent numbers. If you really wanted to, you could quickly restore the initial status anyway with the Chrome extension “The Return of the Likes” – at least in the desktop browser.
Now Instagram is taking the next step and hiding the Like section completely – at least optionally. For your own posts, you can now decide directly on the post whether you want to see the likes. If you decide against it, the heart icon does not disappear. Only the line “Like Hans-Werner and others” is hidden.
If you do not want to see the like information of others either, you will find the new area “Posts” in the settings of the service. There you switch on “Hide likes and views”. From now on you can deal with what Instagram was actually created for – the pictures and videos.
Content creators get more insights
For the viewer, Instagram is a place where there are pictures, videos and live streams to be seen. The creators of this content, however, often do not do this purely for fun, but make a living from it.
For this group of people, statistical information on the success of their own offer is indispensable. Instagram is now launching its analysis tool Insights for the formats Reels and Live.
For reels, the tool shows new metrics such as plays, users reached, likes, comments, number of saves and shares. For the live format, there is an insight into the number of accounts reached, the peak value of simultaneous viewers, comments and shares. Instagram will also incorporate these metrics into account insights. This creates a more complete picture of how Reels and Live affect an account’s performance.
For the coming months, Instagram promises to expand the insights. Then longer periods of time should be evaluable and the insights should be accessible via the desktop.
