The new Fuchsia OS operating system first makes its discreet debut on Nest Hub smart speakers. The software will gradually replace Linux without causing major changes.
Google’s announcement on its in-house operating system dedicated to connected objects dates from 2016. 5 years later, Fuchsia OS makes its arrival on tiptoe. The software installs on the first generation of Nest Hub connected speakers. Until then, it was Cast OS from the Linux system that took care of the animation. What will this change for you? In reality not much for the moment, it will take patience to see the contributions of the new Google OS.
Why has Google developed Fuchsia OS for its connected objects?
After a Google I / O rich in software announcements, the deployment of the new OS is smooth for Google users. The change should happen step by step without major upheaval for Nest Hub owners. As reported by our colleagues from 9to5Google, the deployment is first done on models dating from 2018. Despite the change on Fuchsia OS, nothing will be changed in the use of your connected object. For the moment, only connected speakers are concerned, but there is some uncertainty over the usefulness of this new OS from Google.
Indeed, Fuchsia is an operating system intended above all to be versatile. If Google rejects the idea of replacing Chrome and Android, the contribution of this new software will allow it to work at best on the versatility of its products. However, the trend would be for the manufacturer to seek to split the software. Apple offers several variations of these OS depending on TVs, tablets and even iPhone. It remains to be seen which philosophy will be adapted by Google.
