An interesting auction on eBay is about to end and you definitely want to bid again. Then it can quickly happen that you have inadvertently placed a bid that is far too high. Often a wrongly placed comma creeps in and you pay a price that is significantly too high for a product. It can also happen that the seller or dealer changes the article description of the product very significantly and you no longer want to bid on it. Then you can do yours eBay bid to withdraw.

When can I withdraw a bid?
Basically, all bids on eBay are binding. Before you buy, you should therefore carefully check the seller’s item description and read through before you bid.
- You should therefore read the item description carefully.
- Also take a close look at the seller’s rating profile.
- If you have any questions about a product, ask the seller.
A bid may only be withdrawn if:
- you have accidentally offered the wrong contribution (example: EUR 88.30 instead of EUR 8.83). Then you should correct the amount immediately.
- the item description has been changed so much by the seller that you no longer want to buy the item or bid for it.
A bid may NOT be withdrawn if:
- you have changed your mind about the item and suddenly no longer want to buy it.
- you just bid SOMETHING higher than you originally intended.
Withdraw eBay bid: deadlines and consequences
If the eBay item offer ends in more than 12 hours, the following applies:
- ALL of your bids that you placed on the item will be removed. So if you want to correct a bid error, you have to bid again with the correct amount.
If the item’s end of sale expires in less than 12 hours:
- You have to withdraw your bid within 1 hour. However, this only withdraws your last bid. All previous bids remain.
If the return period has already expired, there is only one way of not having to pay for the product anyway: The seller or dealer is courteous and cancels your purchase on request. To do this, however, you have to contact the seller. After the deadline has expired, only the latter is entitled to delete bids.
What about items with Buy It Now bids & Propose Price?
It is important that you cannot withdraw your bids with buy-it-now offers. After the purchase you are obliged to pay the requested amount. The same applies to fixed-price items with the option suggest price are offered: Once the seller has accepted your price, there is no longer any possibility of withdrawal. But you can also contact the seller here, ask them and hope for goodwill.

eBay: withdraw bids – instructions
- Finds the item number of the product on the eBay listing. You can find this in the item description.
- Then opens this eBay website.
- Select the in the drop-down menu Reason for your withdrawal of the commandment.
- Then click on the button “Withdraw bid“, to complete the process.
