Twitter is testing option to cancel tweet after sending
Do you ever send a message that you immediately regret? Good news: Twitter is testing the option to cancel a tweet. You have to be quick, because it can only take a few seconds.
Read on after the ad.
Cancel Tweet may soon be possible
Maybe you used a little too bad language or you see a spelling mistake at the last minute. There are plenty of reasons to immediately regret a message just sent. Twitter is therefore working on the option to cancel a tweet after it has been sent. You will see a timer that counts down to the moment your words finally go out into the wide world.
Your message is still invisible in those few seconds and therefore cannot be retweeted. That really makes canceling a message different from deleting it quickly. After all, others may have already read your tweet.
A Twitter spokesperson confirms opposite Reuters that being able to cancel a tweet is tested. It may be a feature for paying users. Twitter has been investigating for some time how it can become less dependent on advertising income. A subscription would bring various benefits, including a ‘super follow’. This allows users to ask their followers for money for exclusive content.
We can forget about an edit button for now
The ability to cancel a tweet is well and good, but many Twitterers want more. Such as an edit button with which they can edit their messages afterwards. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey doesn’t seem keen on that. He understands the desire to correct spelling mistakes, but fears people will rewrite history by modifying controversial tweets.
Now there are ways to mitigate that risk, but Dorsey probably has more concerns. An edit button on Twitter would only increase the spread of misinformation.
