AW Poll: Which Smart Home Devices Are You Using (2021)?

“Hey Google turn on the lights”, “Start the robot vacuum cleaner”, “play music on Spotify.” For owners of smart home products, it is daily business, because that’s how they put their smart devices to work. Which smart home devices do you have at home?

Smarthome remains a product category that is growing strongly, because we are seeing a broader range of smart products. One of the last standout products we wrote about was the ‘myQ Pet Portal’. A smart hatch that allows your pets to go outside.

In most cases, the smartphone is the central device that operates all our smart devices, according to research in the Netherlands. Whether it concerns speakers: lamps, thermostats or cameras, apps such as Google Home try to accommodate all those connected devices in one ecosystem.

Another striking phenomenon is the rise of cheap smart home products: from video doorbells to smart robot vacuum cleaners. You can find them as a temporary offer in the Aldi, Lidl or Action and often they come unbranded. Last year, Dave Maasland, the CEO of the internet security company ESET Netherlands, warned about possible dangers associated with these unbranded products.

With this recurring AW Poll we want to look at how the share between the different categories of smarthome changes over the years.
