Many new functions Android update known
Today, Google has revealed many new features coming to Android update. Read them here.
Among those features is a new password checking tool, SMS scheduling, and other enhancements such as the TalkBack screen reader, Maps, and Android Auto.
The password checker is going to be integrated into devices running Android 9 and above to warn you about passwords you use that have been previously released. Really handy, because this also works with Google’s Autofill so you can quickly log in to apps and other services on Android.
Message function
Who still sends text messages while you can, for example, WhatsApp? Well, apparently quite a lot of people. And since the inception of text messages, there is a need to be able to schedule messages. With the new update of Android, this will become possible. Type a message, choose a time, to whom it should be sent and schedule it. Handy with friends, family or colleagues who live in a different time zone. You can use the function by pressing and holding the send button and then selecting the date and time.
Flagship feature
Another flagship feature, as Google calls it, is for people who are visually impaired or blind. Talkback is the function these people are using and it becomes more user-friendly.
It allows users to navigate their device by voice and gestures to read, write, send emails, share social media, deliver orders and more. The version can now include a dozen new multi-finger gestures to interact with apps and perform actions. Also, TalkBack’s braille keyboard has added support for Arabic and Spanish.
Minor improvements
The spring update also adds minor improvements to Maps, Assistant and Android Auto. For example, maps can get a dark mode (enable under Settings and then to Theme).
With Google Assistant, it is now possible to use the feature when the phone is locked or further away from you. Android Auto has custom wallpapers and voice-activated games, such as Trivia that you can access with “Hey Google”. It is even possible to switch on the Assistant with the start screen to turn up the heating.
The new features will be rolled out in the coming days on smartphones with Android 6 or higher.
