Do you remember Gex? The video game series dates back to the 90s and has become a cult through the internet. Now the trilogy is being reissued. We show you the first teaser and summarize the fan reactions.
Gex is getting a remake collection
When you think of great platformers, you probably think of games like Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Ratchet & Clank, or even the Sly Cooper games. On the other hand, few players remember Gex.
The series was first published in 1995 and is about Gex, a gecko and TV fanatic. Three parts were created within four yearswhich were received by the trade press in a rather mixed way.
At the beginning of the 2000s, things got pretty quiet about the colorful games. At least until today, because Publisher Limited run games has announced a remake collection of the trilogy. You can watch the first teaser here:
The reboot will be released for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. However, there is no concrete release date yet.
From underdog to popular internet meme
In recent years, Gex has largely become an internet meme. A trademark of the series is the many pop-cultural allusions to the US film and TV landscape. Gex’s voicelines are often so absurd that they are often quoted in a similar style on Reddit and Twitter.
The English-speaking YouTuber Videogamedunkey has dedicated a video to the series and contributed much to the brand’s new popularity. Especially the already mentioned sayings of Gex come into their own in the video:
Accordingly are the fan reactions to the remake collection also quite amusing. Fans are posting their favorite quotes, images and GIFs from the series, officially declaring 2023 Gex Year.
