Netflix snaps up Spider-Man’s nemesis
Fans of comic book adaptations can be happy, because Netflix is still clawing one of Spider-Man’s three arch-enemies in July. His second solo film will soon be running on the well-known and popular streaming platform.
Sony’s own Spider-Man Universe currently has to do without the spider man, but his opponents are already there. It started with Venom in 2018. The uncanny symbiote from space is one of Peter Parker’s (Spider-Man) archenemies in the comics, along with “Green Goblin” and “Doctor Octopus”.

But as already mentioned, the encounter between the two comic heroes will have to wait. First Venom snaps up Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) as host – together, the dynamic duo make the perfect anti-hero. In part 2 “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” from 2021 there will even be the ultimate battle of the symbiotes.
Netflix is now grabbing this film and showing it from July 20, 2023 within the streaming flat rate (watch on Netflix). It was quite successful in cinemas with a little more than 500 million US dollars, but it didn’t quite reach the first part (currently watchable on Disney+). The 2018 film grossed over $800 million worldwide. However, this was before the Corona pandemic.

But is Venom’s second appearance even worth watching? The The opinion of the professional critics and the “real” viewers differ. An IMDb rating of 5.9 is rather poor. The picture of the professionals at Rotten Tomatoes is similar – only 57 percent are convinced of the film.
However, the public sees this demonstrably differently. The forgive an impressive 84 percent in voting. In short: The viewers like “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” and they don’t care much about the opinion of the professionals.

A little hint: You should definitely watch “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” to the end, because there is a little candy hidden there. Incidentally, this is then continued in the mid-credit scene of the MCU hit “Spider-Man: No Way Home” (watch on WOW).
But what’s next for Venom itself? According to current planning, it will be Fall 2024 return with a new and as yet untitled film. Before that, however, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe will be joined by “Kraven the Hunter” (October 2023) and “Madame Web” (February 2024). “Morbius” was shown in cinemas last year, but caused disappointment everywhere.
