Google Pixel Fold cannot withstand heat or other rough handling
If it wasn’t such a shame we’d be doing it ourselves, but luckily there’s JerryRigEverything whose whole life has been devoted to smashing phones. To the bone, sometimes, as we see with the Google Pixel Fold. That one doesn’t exactly come out well in the test.

Now you can of course think: ‘Oh well, it’s a foldable device, rather unfortunate that it’s less strong.’ That is partly true, but the Pixel Fold also weighs heavily against other foldable devices. And, as JerryRigEverything points out, you can expect a bit more from the hinge on a $1,800 phone. 8 other foldable phones managed to pass this wrecker’s test.
Surprisingly enough, Fold’s hinge held up when sand was thrown on the device. However, Google is not quite right when it says that the hinge allows the device to open 180 degrees. That is 179 degrees. In addition, there is no security to prevent the hinge from being bent the other way. And yes, then you just have to give that device to JerryRigEverything: poof, broken ..

In itself, in terms of the sturdiness of the housing, the Google Pixel Fold is also quite okay. The aluminum keeps the phone safe. The fingerprint scanner also holds up well, despite all the abuse it has to endure. Where things go wrong is with the fire test. The screen could last 16 seconds under a flame, but the OLED became unusable and the screen on the inside stopped working quite quickly after the phone turned off due to the risk of overheating.
Curious what else JerryRigEverything comes across? Watch the entire video below. And if you have a Google Pixel Fold, you know what to do: be very careful about heat, bending and bagging keys and other potentially harmful things inside. And don’t forget that screen protector, because if anything becomes clear in this video, it’s that the Pixel Fold isn’t exactly made to last.
