This battle would have looked very different if the scene had been deleted
To this day, the Battle of Helms Klamm is one of the most epic film battles in cinema history. However, there are some scenes that never made it into the final version of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
The Lord of the Rings: More action in Helm’s Deep
The story of The Lord of the Rings has already sufficed for three long films. The Extended edition of the trilogy is even longer and re-adds many cut moments. Still, there are scenes that didn’t even make it into this version.
This also applies to the Battle of Helm’s Deep, which originally started with clearly more girl power would have shone. Actually, the elf warrior Arwen would have appeared at this legendary battle. However, during filming, director Peter Jackson and his team decided not to use the filmed scenes. In the final film, however, there are a few seconds where Arwen can just about be seen.
Arwen and Aragorn would have fought side by side in Helm’s Deep:
Éowyn could have fought too
In addition to Arwen, there is another warrior who was denied an appearance at the Battle of Helm’s Deep. Éowyn would actually have one there too heroic moment should get. In the final version, she accompanies the women and children into the caves behind the Hornburg. There, Éowyn would have originally fought against some Uruk-Hai who had given chase. These scenes were also completely removed.
At minute 2:34 you can watch Éowyn’s fight against the Uruk-Hai:
The Lord of the Rings: Arwen just doesn’t have enough to do
While The Lord of the Rings is rightly considered one of the best film series of all time, the roles of the female characters are definitely still expandable. The cut scenes would have done a lot to ensure Arwen and Éowyn got some action as well. At least Éowyn later gets to prove her bravery in the fight against the Witch-king.
Arwen still messes with the Ringwraiths in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, but after that she comes in handy not an active character more and spends her days sitting around Rivendell. The romantic relationship between Arwen and Aragorn suffers as a result. After the first part of the trilogy, both are almost never together in a room and only yearn for each other in memories and thoughts.
