The smartphone of the founder of Future Candy

In the “Homescreen!” series we take a look at the smartphones of people from the social media, marketing and tech industries – including app recommendations and tips for everything from to-do lists to small games in between. Today: Nick Sohnemann, founder and CEO of the innovation agency Future Candy.

Nick Sohnemann: The smartphone is my life navigation. I wouldn’t be able to get by without a smartphone. I use my phone about five to six hours a day and navigate almost all activities through the device. I try to save money in many areas – but not with my smartphone.

I’m Nick Sohnemann – founder and managing director of the innovation agency Future Candy. Together with my team at I am constantly looking for innovative technologies and sustainable solutions for the future.

We support companies in identifying forward-looking technologies and trends and successfully integrating them into their business strategies. Through tailor-made workshops, lectures and consulting services, we help our clients to assert themselves in the digital age and promote sustainable growth.

I use my smartphone privately and for business – one smartphone and one number for all purposes. My apps therefore not only reflect me personally, but also Future Candy.

Privately I rely on the common social media apps like Whatsapp (for Android) and Instagram (for Android). LinkedIn (for Android) should of course not be missing in order to stay in contact with our customers and to report on our activities.

social media and communication

For work, I also use the Microsoft Teams app (for Android) to communicate efficiently with my team. Also, I use whatsapp business (for Android) to manage professional chats and customer inquiries separately from my private WhatsApp account.

Not to forget for me Outlook (for Android). The app is more than just an email service for me. I use Outlook as my calendar – true to the motto: What’s not in it won’t happen.

In the name of Future Candy I often travel all over Germany. For keynotes, I traveled from Hamburg via Stuttgart to Munich in one day in a week. That may sound stressful, but when I can inspire more innovation with my keynote on the stages of Germany. Then I’ll be happy to do it.

Deutsche Bahn instead of Lufthansa and Eurowings

The most sustainable way for me to travel is by train. At Future Candy, we try to make all business trips only by train. That’s why the Deutsche Bahn app (for Android) has become an indispensable companion for me. Other apps like Lufthansa or Eurowings have disappeared from my cell phone.

If I then continue traveling spontaneously, then I can do that kayak app (for Android) recommend. I use it to keep track of my booked hotels, trains or rental cars. As an innovation agency, it is almost our duty to try out and report on the latest technologies – as well as apps.

Blinkist, ChatGPT and Bing

The app Blinkist (for Android) is very helpful for quickly and efficiently summarizing knowledge from different books and then listening to it. This helps me to understand connections when technologies have changed due to developments in other industries.

As said before, we always try to try the latest tech trends and apps first. Did you know that the search engine Bing has integrated ChatGPT4 in its search algorithm? So it’s clear that I Bing app (for Android) on my home screen. Meanwhile, ChatGPT also has its own in Germany Apps for iOS launched.

It’s been on my home screen since day one. These apps allow me to quickly and easily find information and come up with creative solutions to problems.
