Jing Yuan is a general of the Xianzhou Luofu and appears as a supporting character in Honkai: Star Rail in the second arc of the game. He already convinces many players with his appealing character design, his mysterious personality and some Trailers. However, for those of you who pay more attention to gameplay and character strength, Jing Yuan will not disappoint either: In the beta, the Electro DPS dealt arguably the highest damage of any playable character, and despite dealing area damage, it could even keep up with characters from the Hunt Path. Even now he will be a useful member of every team and make some boss fights a little easier.

The two new banners, the Jing Yuan character action warp and the cone of light action warp with his cone of light, will become available right after the expiration of Seele’s action banner. From Wednesday 17 May 2023 at 7 p.m, you can spend your Stellar Jade and Star Rail Special Passes on his banner. It will be available for exactly three weeks and until the release of version 1.1 on June 7th, enriching the roster of current playable characters. Unfortunately, it is not yet clear whether and to what extent soul will be available again afterwards – so if you want to draw on her, you should hurry.
Besides Jing Yuan himself, the following 4-star characters will appear on his Whirl of Celestial Spears figure action warp: have an increased chance:
- suspension: Sushang is a strong DPS character of the hunt path and the physical element. Especially at a higher level, she deals high damage and can also shine with her passive talents, which, for example, make opponents attack her less often.
- Tingyun: Tingyun is an electro support from the Path of Harmony. Especially if you don’t have Bronya, Tingyun is an enrichment for every team, since she can both strengthen the attack of individual team members and restore their energy.
- 7th March: Although you get March 7th for free at the start of the game, it’s worth moving onto some of their eidolons. Just at her full upgrade on her sixth eidola, in addition to her tank abilities, she becomes a healer and can restore HP to shielded characters.
On the Radiant Anchoring Light Cone Action Banner, the following 4-Star Light Cones appear next to Jing Yuan’s Before Dawn Light Cone be available at an increased chance of:
- Planetary rendezvous (The Harmony): Increases the damage of the teammate that has the same damage type as the Light Cone wielder.
- Only the silence remains (The Hunt): At all times, increases the wearer’s Attack and also their CRIT Rate when there are two or fewer enemies on the field.
- The first day of my new life (The Preservation): Increases the wearer’s VTD and all allies’ DMG-WDS.
Jing Yuan is a character who will remain unrivaled at dealing area-of-effect damage for the next few versions. Especially at the beginning of the game it will make the many fights and bosses easier for you, but it will also be one of, if not the, best option for endgame content at this time. Likewise, the 4-star characters on his banner and their eidola are very good and want to be on every team.
Jing Yuan’s cone of light increases his CRIT damage and the damage of his ability and special ability and is therefore a very powerful weapon. The Cone of Light is highly recommended for players looking to spend money, but F2P players should keep their Stellar Jade together and wait for the characters to come. Jing Yuan will also deal a lot of damage with a 4-star cone of light.
However, one point against dragging Jing Yuan’s banner is characters that will appear in the future. While new, often better DPS characters are constantly being released in Genshin Impact, this could also be the case in Honkai: Star Rail. As a result, Jing Yuan would be overtaken by better, stronger characters in time. Support characters tend to stay at the top of the leaderboards longer, and leaks show that some of these will appear as early as version 1.1 – so players should carefully consider which characters are more important to them. The 4-star character Serval also fulfills the exact same role as Jing Yuan and even has the same element – and you even get Serval completely free of charge.
