Apple launches iOS 16.5 RC
A week before the final update, Apple released the Release Candidate (RC) of iOS 16.5. This is the last test version of iOS 16.5, the official release often follows less than a week after the RC. Apple confirmed this when presenting new watchOS and iOS wallpapers in Pride’s theme. These wallpapers will be released next week with iOS 16.5 and watchOS 9.5.

This is expected to be the last iOS 16 update before the release of iOS 17, the next major update for your iPhone. Apple will present iOS 17 on June 5, but the official release of iOS 17 will not follow until September. Due to the approaching presentation of iOS 17, Apple is no longer bringing major new features to your iPhone with iOS 16.5. We list the new functions for you.
New features in iOS 16.5
Earlier test versions of iOS 16.5 already made it clear that this is a minor update. Siri will at least have a function in the iOS update. In iOS 16.5 it will soon be possible to make screen recordings with the voice assistant. To make a screen recording with Siri, simply say “Hey Siri, start a screen recording”. Stopping the recording is also done via the voice assistant.
In addition, Apple News is getting a new tab. All current sports news will soon be shown in this new window. You will hardly notice this addition in the Netherlands and Belgium, because Apple News is still not available here. It is still unknown whether (and when) the service will come to the Netherlands and Belgium.
Minor bug fixes in the new iOS update
In addition, Apple fixes a number of minor issues in iOS 16.5. In some cases, Spotlight was not working properly, which should be fixed in the new iOS update. The Screen Time feature also had a bug, causing the feature to suddenly reset and not sync across all Apple devices. This has been fixed in iOS 16.5.
In the description of iOS 16.5 RC, Apple finally mentions a bug in CarPlay. In iOS 16.4, podcasts sometimes don’t play when iPhone is connected to CarPlay. The new iOS update should also fix this problem.
iOS 16.5 will be released next week
Apple has therefore confirmed that iOS 16.5 will be released next week when presenting the new Pride Edition wallpapers. Typically, Apple releases iOS updates at the beginning of the week. You can therefore probably install iOS 16.5 on your iPhone on Monday or Tuesday evening around 7 p.m.
